       More than 80% of the existing urban sewage treatment plants in China adopt activated sludge process, while the rest adopt primary treatment, enhanced primary treatment, stabilization pond process and land treatment. Most of the municipal sewage treatment plants built before the 1980s in our country adopt the conventional aeration activated sludge treatment process. Because the main goal of this process is to remove BOD and SS, the removal rate of nitrogen and phosphorus is very low. In order to adapt to the water environment and discharge requirements, some sewage treatment plants are undergoing transformation to increase or strengthen the denitrification and phosphorus removal functions. In recent years, due to the continuous emergence of high concentration wastewater and refractory wastewater, the combination of biological process and physicochemical process, and the combination of anaerobic process and aerobic process in biological process are the development trend for the treatment of many industrial wastewater. In addition, due to the requirements of wastewater recycling and reuse, advanced wastewater treatment technology has become a relatively active field of water treatment technology. It should be said that through the efforts of scientists and technologists in water treatment over the years, China has researched and developed many new processes, materials, equipment, instruments and reagents. The technology and process of water pollution control in China have reached a considerable level. Taking the biological treatment technology of waste water (sewage) as an example, the developed technology, including biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal process, can remove inorganic nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus; the anaerobic bioreactor can treat industrial wastewater with high concentration of organic matter; the biological treatment process combining anaerobic and aerobic treatment has some advantages over the refractory organic matter Good treatment effect; through the cultivation and domestication of microorganisms and the application of genetic engineering, the refractory organics will not be difficult to degrade; various fillers or ceramsite and other biofilm treatment processes can be used to treat micro polluted water source; the combination of wastewater biological treatment technology and chemical and physical treatment processes can meet the requirements of wastewater reuse. In the future, with the development of urban sewage treatment in China, the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients will still be the focus and the difficulty. Industrial wastewater treatment will start to shift to the whole process control, and the separate decentralized treatment will turn to the centralized treatment of urban sewage. The more stringent the water quality control index is, the more comprehensive integration and industry of technology, equipment and engineering will be turned from the pure technology research With the comprehensive research of economy, policy and standard, wastewater recycling has been put on the agenda, and wastewater pollution and treatment in small and medium-sized cities have begun to receive attention.
